Properties and administration

Daptomycin® Rokitan, a semi-synthetic cyclic lipopeptide is a relatively new antibiotic, which shows strong efficacy against gram-positive bacteria. It is presented as a dry-powder vial, containing 350 mg or 500 mg. The regular infusion time is at least 30 minutes and the dosage, according to the indication is 4–6 mg/kg, every 24 hours. The half-life time is ca. 8 hours. Daptomycin® Rokitan is bactericidal and the serum concentration is linear when given once daily. The excretion of Daptomycin® Rokitan is predominantly renal.

Anti-microbial spectrum of activity and Indications

Daptomycin® Rokitan is only effective against gram-positive bacteria, the spectrum of activity includes methicillin-sensitive and -resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA/MRSA), as well as vancomycin-resistant enterococci. .[1]

The approved indications are:

  • Complicated skin and soft tissue infections (in adults and children and adolescents aged one to 17 years)
  • Adults with right-sided endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus aureus
  • Adults with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia

Daptomycin® Rokitan: Possible side effects
